Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who
according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a living
hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an
inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that fadeth not away,
reserved in Heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through
faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this ye
greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in
heaviness through manifold temptations, that the trial of your faith
(being much more precious than gold that perisheth, though it be tested
with fire) might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the
appearing of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen, ye love. In Him,
though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy
unspeakable and full of glory, the end of your faith, even the
salvation of your souls.
1 Peter 1: 3-9
THINK ABOUT IT
What is the weather like where you live? How can you tell?
Can you see the sky? Can you feel the temperature?
When you get where you're going this evening (or morning), will you be inside? Where did you last sleep?
What did you eat today? What will you eat tonight? Are you hungry? How do you know?
Have you been ill recently? Have you had a pain that has lingered for a
while? Are there some things about your body, your health, that you
would change if you could? Have you had an illness that you don't have
anymore?
Do you have any friends? Any neighbors? Have you spoken to anyone today? Did you speak to anyone yesterday?
Can you read? Can you write? Do you understand and speak at least one language?
What are you doing right now?
When was the last time you heard or read the news?
Have you ever BEEN the news?
Do you decide what happens in your life? Whether you get up and go
about your business for the day? Can you choose whether or not to
speak? Do you decide whether or not you change clothes? Do you think
for yourself?
Do you drive? Can you walk? Can you sit up? Turn your head? Blink your eyes?
Are you married or single? A parent or childless?
Are you here?
Can you breathe?
WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT?
Any answer to any of these questions is reason all by itself to praise the Lord.
You are alive.
And as long as you are alive, if some part of your situation does not
please you, your attitude towards it can be changed even if it can not.
Acceptance and Appreciation, Patience and Persistence, Humbleness and
Honoring God for what you have. These are the keys to Happiness and
Peace.
Philippians 4:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if
there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard,
and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care
of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye
lacked opportunity.
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where
and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry,
both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
